The Beautiful Details

These kimonos are made fromrecycled Saaris in partnership with Peace of Thread, an artisan group that empowers refugee women by teaching them sewing and design skills.

First, the saaris were stitched by theThar Artisan Collective, creating the wavy lines of the Kantha "running stitch", and Indian tradition. Then, they were sewn into kimonos by the women of Peace of Thread.

*Due to the natural technique of tie-dying, variations in color and pattern are expected, and what make these unique scarves so beautiful!

Tie-dye technique: The tying of cloth with thread and then dying it is the simplest and perhaps the oldest form of decorated textiles. Bandhani is a popular type of tie and dye method in India, and is mostly done in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
